Tynwald has today approved recommendations that Isle of Man Railways (part of the Department of Infrastructure) continue to operate the Horse Tramway for a further two seasons (2017 & 2018), and seek to acquire the Strathallan Depot (along with tramcars and horses) from Douglas Borough Council. This extension of operation will allow the DoI tme to prepare a detailed case for future capital investment required for the long-term survival of the tramway.

The recommendation to only lay a replacement single track from Derby Castle to the War Memorial, with abandonment of the Loch Promenade  section, was rejected in favour of a new single track being laid full length of the bay from Derby Castle to the Sea Terminal, as part of a promenade highway improvement scheme.
